Cultural Value of Our Place

Mt Pinbarren & the Gubbi Gubbi People

Mt Pinbarren is considered important to our indigenous peoples and we are working with Gubbi Gubbi Elder Mark Moore to hear the stories of our land and help protect the precious rare plants and animals that live with us.

We work closely with Uncle Mark to ensure connection to country and Indigenous knowledge continues to be shared. Mt Pinbarren is of high importance to the Gubbi Gubbi people and as such the park is covered by a native title claim on behalf of the Gubbi Gubbi First Nation.

Uncle Mark Moore's Contributions

Uncle Mark Moore (GT 1977), proud Gubbi Gubbi man, has been inducted as a Life Member of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (ATSICHS) Brisbane for his dedicated service and contributions in Queensland. Uncle Mark has a deep and enduring connection with ATSICHS Brisbane having served on the Board in the 1980s. He then became the Human Resources Manager in 1998 to manage the organisation’s growth. From 1999 to 2008, he served as the longest-serving CEO, making a significant impact. Mark has always prioritised delivering culturally safe services, especially for Elders, and played a crucial role in obtaining accreditation for the Jimbelunga Nursing Centre and handling negotiations with Brisbane City Council for premises. He also established the Indigenous Family and Child Support Service and the Community Controlled Child Protection Service through dedication and collaboration with Government agencies. Congratulations Mark, we are proud of the outstanding contribution you have made to First Nations advocacy and care in Queensland.
